Unai Emery and Aston Villa are set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Blues are looking to continue making progress, with the top six and potentially UEFA Champions League qualification in their sights this season. A win against Villa would help them achieve their ambitions for the season.

Enzo Maresca is widely reported to be the new Chelsea Head Coach for this season and beyond. The Italian used to work under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and last season he was Leicester City’s Manager. Following his appointment on 16th June 2023, the Foxes won the EFL Championship title with 97 points from their 46 matches in order to earn an instant return to the top table of English Football.

Maresca’s imminent appointment comes after the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino, who led the Blues to sixth place despite an inconsistent start. The Blues will be playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League after Manchester United won the 2024 FA Cup at Wembley against their cross-city rivals Manchester City.

Moving on to Aston Villa, current Head Coach Unai Emery took over the Villans in November 2022 following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard. With Villa just above the relegation zone, the Spaniard managed to lead the Villans to a sensational 7th-place finish to secure European Football for the first time in more than 10 years.

The 2023/24 season was Emery’s first full campaign in charge of the West Midlands club, which saw even more progress being made, with some historic victories, which included 1 – 0 wins against both Manchester City and Arsenal at Villa Park. Villa went on to finish in 4th place with 68 points, securing a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 1982/83 season when it was known as the European Cup. They were knocked out of the UEFA Europa Conference League by eventual winners Olympiacos over two legs in the semi-final.
