Everton, led by their Head Coach David Moyes, is set to come face to face with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at Goodison Park in the 2024/25 Premier League season. A victory here on Merseyside would enhance the Toffees’ chances of realise their ambitions to remain in the Premier League this season.
This is Everton’s final season at Goodison Park, their home since 1892, a short time after they left Anfield. The Toffees are set to move into the Everton Stadium ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The return of David Moyes to Everton as Head Coach was announced on 11th January 2025. This is the Scot’s second time in charge of the Toffees, with his first spell at the club spanning 9 years from 2002 to his departure for Manchester United in 2013. Moyes had a successful time with the club, and it included qualification for the UEFA Champions League in the 2004/05 season, whilst also qualifying for the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League) twice, in 2006/07 with a sixth place finish, and then with a fifth place finish in 2007/08. In the former, Everton reached the last sixteen where they were unfortunately beaten by Italy’s Fiorentina.
Moyes’ time at the club is also famous for the signing of some club favourites, including the likes of Yakubu, Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, Andy Johnson, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, Kevin Mirallas, and Leighton Baines.
David Moyes succeeds Sean Dyche, who took charge of Everton back on 30th January 2023. Everton went on to stay up in the Premier League in 2022/23, finishing 17th with 36 points, avoiding relegation by a margin of just 2 points. By the end of the 2023/24 campaign, they stayed up more comfortably despite all of the points deductions that they suffered over the course of last year.
In the end, the Toffees finished in 15th place, with a total of 40 points from their 38 games—they were 14 points clear of the drop.
Moving on to Arsenal, current Head Coach Mikel Arteta took over from the Gunners’ previous boss, Unai Emery, on 20 December 2019. His first half season saw them establish a 5th-place finish, and in the last two seasons, the North London outfit has finished in second place in both of their last two top-flight campaigns.
Last season saw the Gunners go particularly close to securing their first Premier League title since their invincibles campaign in 2004, but they missed out by just 2 points to Manchester City. The Gunners accumulated 89 points compared to the Cityzens’ 91 overall.
These two clubs have gone toe to toe in a competitive fixture in all competitions no less than 223 times, and the Gunners have the superior record of 112 wins compared to 65 for the Toffees to date. There have been 46 draws between these two teams so far.
Everton and Arsenal go face to face at Goodison Park in the 2024/25 Premier League season. This game is set to be enthralling and competitive with an incredible atmosphere to boot at Goodison Park.
