David Moyes is the current Everton Head Coach, and he will be leading his Toffees side into a match against Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s newly promoted Leicester City side at Goodison Park in the 2024/25 Premier League season. With a midtable finish and avoiding relegation comfortably once more in their sights, victory here against the Foxes would be vital for the Toffees.
Everton are set to move to their new 52,888 capacity Everton Stadium as their brand new home ground by the start of the 2025/26 season, so this season will be the Toffees’ last at Goodison Park since they moved there from their previous home, Anfield, all the way back in 1892. Therefore, the club will be wanting to make this season memorable.
Official confirmation of Moyes’ much anticipated return to Everton as the club’s latest Head Coach took place on 11th January 2025. This is the Scot’s second time in charge of the Merseyside club, with his first spell spanning 9 years from 2002 to his departure in 2013. Moyes had a successful time with the Toffees, which included qualification for the UEFA Champions League in the 2004/05 season, whilst also qualifying for the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League) on two occasions, finishing 6th in the 2006/07 season, before going on to seal a 5th place finish in the following campaign (2007/08). In the former, Everton reached the last sixteen where they were unfortunately beaten by Italy’s Fiorentina.
Moyes’ time at the club is also famous for the signing of some club favourites, including the likes of Yakubu, Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, Andy Johnson, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, Kevin Mirallas, and Leighton Baines.
David Moyes succeeds Sean Dyche, who took charge back on 30th January 2023. Everton went on to stay up in the Premier League in 2022/23, finishing 17th with 36 points, avoiding relegation by a margin of just 2 points. By the end of the 2023/24 campaign, they stayed up more comfortably despite all of the points deductions that they suffered over the course of last year.
Moving on to Leicester City, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge back on 29th November 2024, following the departure of Steve Cooper who had been in charge since taking over from Enzo Maresca at the beginning of the current campaign.
These two clubs have gone head to head in all competitions a total of 119 times, and Everton has the superior record of 45 wins compared with the Foxes’ record of 39 to date, as of the time of writing. There have been, so far, 35 draws between these two teams.
Everton and Leicester City will go toe to toe at Goodison Park in the 2024/25 Premier League season. This game is set to be enthralling and highly competitive, with an incredible atmosphere to boot.
