Champions League: Quarter Final Second Leg Preview
Following the first leg matches last week, the final eight clubs in this season’s UEFA Champions League will be looking to confirm their place in the Semi Finals by securing an aggregate victory in the second leg of the Quarter Finals.
Excitement and anticipation are building rapidly ahead of the resumption of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals this week, with the last few football clubs remaining competing for a place in the Semi Finals in the second leg of their last eight tie from Tuesday 15th to Wednesday 16th April 2025.
On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund will be welcoming Hansi Flick and his FC Barcelona side to the Signal Iduna Park in Germany, whilst Unai Emery and his Aston Villa outfit will be hosting French Champions Paris Saint-Germain at Villa Park looking to comeback from a 3 – 1 deficit from the first leg in Paris at the Parc des Princes.
As for Wednesday, Inter Milan will be going toe to toe with German Heavyweight Bayern Munich at the San Siro. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be looking to continue to fend off the reigning European Champions Real Madrid with them taking what is a truly commanding 3 – 0 lead into the Second Leg game at the Santiago Bernabéu, located in the heart of the Spanish Capital.
The ties for the semi-finals have already been drawn. Arsenal or Real Madrid will be facing either PSG or Aston Villa. On the other side of the draw, it will be one of Inter Milan or Bayern Munich who come toe to toe with either Borussia Dortmund or FC Barcelona in the last four of the competition.
Here, we will be taking a look ahead at all of the enthralling action to come in the much anticipated Second Leg matches of the four Quarter Final ties of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League. History is beckoning for four clubs to take their place in the highly prestigious Semi-Finals, with the fates of all teams remaining set to be decided very soon.
Borussia Dortmund (Germany) vs. FC Barcelona (Spain) – Signal Iduna Park – Tuesday 15th April 2025, 20:00 KO (Agg. 0 – 4)
We will start by taking a look ahead at the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg tie between Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, led by Niko Kovač, and an FC Barcelona outfit led by their current Head Coach, Hansi Flick. This contest will be taking place at BVB’s Signal Iduna Park in what is going to be an 8pm kick-off on the night of Tuesday 15th April 2025.
The hosts BVB will feel that there is perhaps little chance of them being able to turn this tie around. In the first leg, the Bundesliga heavyweights were heavily beaten 4 – 0 by Barça at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The goals in the first leg were scored thanks to Raphinha (25’), Robert Lewandowski (48’, 66’), and Lamine Yamal (77’).
Dortmund will be hoping for at least a victory on the night in the second leg, but they will still be determined to try and level the tie on aggregate and go from there.
Aston Villa (England) vs. Paris Saint Germain (France) – Villa Park – Tuesday 15th April 2025, 20:00 KO (Agg. 1 – 3)
The next game that we will be taking a look ahead at is the one that sees Unai Emery’s Aston Villa host Luis Enrique’s PSG in the second leg of their 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Quarter Final tie at Villa Park in the heart of Birmingham. This contest in B6 is much anticipated, with this battle in the Second City set to decide which one of these clubs will find themselves in this competitions Semi-Finals.
There will certainly be some optimism from Unai Emery, his players, and the fans themselves that they can turn around this two goal deficit following what was a 3 – 1 defeat at the Parc des Princes in the heart of Paris, France last week. Whilst the quality of the hosts did tell in the end, it was still a good performance from the Villans. They will also take the positives from this performance as well as the momentum from the Premier League victory over Southampton into this game.
Morgan Rogers gave Villa the lead with just over half an hour gone in the first half (35’), before a sumptuous strike from PSG’s 19 year old French forward Désiré Doué just a few moments later (39’). Then just after half time, there was another superb goal from PSG, this time through their Georgian international forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (49’), before a third then came in the early stages of the second half stoppage time from their left back Nuno Mendes (90+2’).
All eyes will be on Birmingham for this much anticipated and high profile tie in the second leg of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals.
Inter Milan (Italy) vs. Bayern Munich (Germany) – San Siro – Wednesday 16th April 2025, 20:00 KO (Agg. 2 – 1)
Next up in this comprehensive preview is the second leg of this high profile and high stakes UEFA Champions League Quarter Final tie, which is going to be played between Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan and Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich at the famous, historic, and world-renowned San Siro Stadium on the evening of Wednesday 16th April 2025, with kick-off at 8pm.
The first leg in Bavaria at the Allianz Arena in Munich saw a fierce battle between two of the biggest clubs in all of Europe take place, and in the end, it was the Italian visitors who came out on top in the first leg, with Inter winning this game 2 – 1. Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez gave the away side the lead in the latter stages of the first half (38’), and it was not until the dying embers of the game in the second half that Bayern got their equaliser through club legend Thomas Müller (85’). But Inter did indeed get their winning goal in the end thanks to an effort from Davide Frattesi just a couple of moments later (88’).
It is a narrow advantage for Simone Inzaghi and his Inter Milan side going into the second leg, and they will hope that they can get themselves through, whilst Bayern will be looking to seal their spot in the Semi Finals after turning their fortunes around in this game with a win.
Real Madrid (Spain) vs. Arsenal (England) – Santiago Bernabéu – Wednesday 16th April 2025, 20:00 KO (Agg. 0 – 3)
The final game that we are taking a look ahead at here is between 15 time winners and the reigning European Champions Real Madrid led by Carlo Ancelotti, who will be facing the only other side left in the English Premier League – Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. The Gunners will be taking on Los Blancos away from home in the Spanish Capital at the historic Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday 16th April 2025 in what is going to be an 8pm kick-off.
In the first leg last week at the famous Emirates Stadium, a simply superb performance from Arsenal saw them secure what was an emphatic, well deserved, and crucial 3 – 0 victory in North London and Ancelotti’s side, giving them an incredible advantage going into the second and final leg of this 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals tie in Spain on Wednesday night.
Declan Rice scored two spectacular second half free-kicks to give the Gunners a two goal advantage (58’, 70’) before a third was added through midfielder Mikel Merino – playing as a striker – with less than twenty minutes to go in the game (75’).
There will be some strong optimism amongst the club itself, its players and its fans that Arsenal will be able to make it through into the Semi Finals.
