Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall signs for Chelsea

Chelsea Transfer Round-up

The West London side have been active in the 2024 summer transfer window so far, and here we take a look at the signings that the Blues have made to date.

With the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season edging ever closer, activity in the summer transfer window is only set to ramp up over the coming weeks with clubs hoping that their signings can help them realise their targets for the campaign. Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea will be no different, and the Blues have been very active so far.

As of the time of writing, the Blues have signed a total of five players for a combined fee of €77.9 million (£65.5 million). In terms of departures, Chelsea has seen a further five players leave the football club as of the time of writing, for a total transfer fee of €101 million (£85 million).

Let’s begin with the players that have come through the doors at the Blues’ Cobham Training Ground so far.

The first arrival at Chelsea was central defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who joined the West London club on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at local rivals Fulham. He began his career with Manchester City’s youth academy, where he went on to make 7 appearances for the senior team, including plenty for the Cityzens’ youth teams.

Adarabioyo went on to leave the club for a loan spell in the EFL Championship with West Brom, making 29 appearances in the 2018/19 season, helping the Baggies to the Play-Off Semi Finals. Then, after another successful loan spell with Blackburn Rovers the season after that.

After impressing once more, Fulham signed him permanently in October 2020, and he has not looked back since. Last season (2023/24), Tosin Adarabioyo made 20 appearances, scoring 2 goals, as the Cottagers finished in 13th place. He was also part of the Fulham side that finished 10th in their first season back in the top flight back in the 2022/23 season.

We will now move on to Chelsea’s second signing of the 2024 Summer Transfer Window, which saw 18 year old English forward Omari Kellyman join from Premier League rivals Aston Villa for a reported fee in the region of £19 million.

Kellyman is very much in the early stages of his career, but he had already made 6 senior appearances for Villa’s first team in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa Conference League. The forward joined from Derby County in 2021, and after three years at the West Midlands club where he showed plenty of promise, he decided to sign for Chelsea.

18 year old Spanish forward Marc Guiu was the next arrival at Stamford Bridge, joining from Spanish Giants FC Barcelona for a reported fee of €6 million (£5.08 million). After joining the famous La Masia youth academy in 2013, he went on to make 5 appearances for the Blaugrana’s first team during the 2023/24 season. He scored 2 goals for the senior team, whilst finding the back of the net 6 times in 17 appearances, with 4 assists to boot, for the club’s reserve team.

He now joins Chelsea, where he looks to break into the first team, where he competes with the likes of Nicolas Jackson for the starting striker spot up front.

Another player to have signed for the Blues this summer is Portuguese defensive midfielder Renato Veiga, with the 20 year old joining from Swiss heavyweights FC Basel for a fee of €14 million (£11.79 million). Veiga made no less than 23 appearances last season for Basel, scoring 2 goals while also collecting an assist to boot. He had begun his career in his native Portugal with Sporting Lisbon, before joining Augsburg in Germany in 2022. Then, after a season there, he joined Basel ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Chelsea’s most recent signing was Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, an English central midfielder who joined the club from Enzo Maresca’s former club, Leicester City, for a fee in the region of £30 million. He was a key part of the Foxes’ EFL Championship title winning side, making 44 appearances where he scored an incredible 12 goals, as well as providing no less than 14 assists.

Dewsbury-Hall has previous Premier League experience, having made 59 appearances in the top flight, and he has also had loan spells with Luton Town in the EFL Championship in the 2020/21 season and with Blackpool in League One in the 2019/20 season.

In terms of outgoings, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva have departed the club on free transfers to Galatasaray and Fluminense respectively, whilst Lewis Hall has completed his permanent move to Newcastle United. Finally, Ian Maatsen has departed the club for Aston Villa for a fee of £37.5 million.

It has been an exciting transfer window so far for Chelsea, and it seems likely that there will be further transfers in and out of the club before the 2024 Summer Transfer Window closes for the Blues on Friday 30th August 2024 at 11 pm.

Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and there is strong optimism that Chelsea can enjoy a very successful campaign in the English top flight.
