Clubs with the fewest league goals conceded so far

Here, we will take a look at the clubs with the best defensive records in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Football in the Premier League is enthralling throughout each and every top-flight season. We have already taken a look at the clubs who have scored the most goals this term, but now we are going to shine a light on the defenders. We are going to take a look at the five teams who have conceded the fewest goals in the league so far.

It is common knowledge that goals are vital in football, but so are clean sheets. The fates of clubs can often be decided on goal difference, so a sturdy defence is essential should a team be aiming for the title, the top four, the top half, or to avoid a dreaded relegation down to the Championship.

We do have five entries on this list, but these are some clubs who have not made this list that find themselves in the top ten for most clean sheets since 1992. These clubs are  Everton (377), Manchester City (363), Aston Villa (323), Newcastle United (294) and West Ham United (276).

Now, we will go through the clubs who have conceded the least amount of goals so far in the 2024/25 Premier League season, starting with Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth and Marco Silva’s Fulham.

5: Bournemouth, Fulham & Crystal Palace (20 Goals)

Bournemouth, Fulham, and Crystal Palace are the first clubs on this list, who have so far (as of the time of writing) conceded the joint fifth least amount of goals in the Premier League so far this season with just 20 goals from their opening 15 matches. So far this season, Bournemouth and Fulham have kept 2 clean sheets, whilst Palace have 3.

Speaking of clean sheets, Fulham have kept the 14th most clean sheets since the inauguration of the Premier League in 1992, with a total of 173. Bournemouth are still relatively new to the Premier League overall, and they sit in 37th with 57.

As for Crystal Palace, they have so far kept a total of 149 clean sheets, which sees them sat 17th in the all time standings to date.

4: Spurs (19 Goals)

Next up on this list is Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs, who have conceded the next least amount of goals this season with just 19. The Lilywhites have kept the 14th most clean sheets in the 2024/25 season with 3, the same as West Ham, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Manchester City. This record is also more than top four rivals Aston Villa (2).

Since the formation of the Premier League more than 30 years ago, Tottenham Hotspur have kept the seventh most clean sheets with 350.

3: Chelsea, Nottingham Forest & Manchester United (18 Goals)

Now we move on to the podium positions, and in third place, we have reigning Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United, who have all conceded just 18 goals so far after just 15 matches of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Chelsea have kept 3 clean sheets, the same as fellow London Clubs Crystal Palace, Spurs, and West Ham United, as well as reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City.

As for Nottingham Forest, they have 5 clean sheets together with Arsenal and Everton. Only Manchester United and Liverpool have had more clean sheets.

Finally, the aforementioned Manchester United have had 6 clean sheets, one behind Liverpool who have the most.

Historically since 1992, Chelsea have kept the 2nd most clean sheets with 484, whilst Nottingham Forest have 62 (34th) and Manchester United, who have the most with no less than 510.

2: Arsenal (15 Goals)

Just missing out on top spot is Arsenal, who have conceded a grand total of just 15 goals in their 15 matches so far in the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Gunners have kept the joint third most clean sheets in the league this season, together with Everton and Nottingham Forest, with 5 each.

Since the formation of the Premier League all the way back in 1992, Arsenal have kept the third most clean sheets with 473. Only Chelsea (484) and Manchester United (510) have more.

1: Liverpool (11 Goals)

The team that has conceded the least amount of goals so far in the 2024/25 Premier League season is Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who have conceded just 10 goals this season. The Reds are looking to reclaim the highly coveted Premier League title this season, and conceding as few goals as possible will help them achieve their end goal.

It won’t come as a surprise then, that Liverpool have kept the most clean sheets this season with 7. Since 1992, the Merseyside club have kept the join third most clean sheets with 473 – the same as title rivals Arsenal. They are only behind Chelsea and Manchester United, but they have kept 96 more than rivals Everton (5th).

There are some honourable mentions. Here are the clubs who did not quite make it onto this list: Manchester City (21), Newcastle United (21), Everton (21), Brighton (22), Aston Villa (23), Brentford (28), and West Ham United (28).

It remains to be seen whether all of these teams can keep up their fantastic defensive records for the remainder of the season, but a strong defence is one of the keys to success. So, if these clubs can keep their records up for a sustained period, they will each have more of a chance of achieving their goals for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
