Conference League: Chelsea vs. Legia Warsaw Preview
Enzo Maresca’s Blues have the opportunity to book their place in the Conference League Semi Finals on Thursday night in the second leg of their Quarter Final tie against Legia Warsaw at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have been flawless in their 2024/25 UEFA Conference League Campaign to date, having won every game in the competition to date, as of the time of writing. And, following a sensational performance in Poland last week, the Blues have the opportunity to officially book their place in the Semi Finals in the Second Leg of this Quarter Finals tie against Legia Warsaw at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
This game will be taking place on the evening of Thursday 17th April 2025, with the contest getting underway at 20:00.
In the first leg, it was a crucial game where Chelsea wanted to secure victory and take a lead back to the second leg a week later in West London, and this is exactly what the Blues did. It was an emphatic and ruthless 3 – 0 victory away from home in Poland, thanks to goals from the likes of Youth Academy Graduate Tyrique George (49’) and as well as fellow forward Noni Madueke, who got his brace either side of the half time break (57’, 74’).
As mentioned previously, Chelsea has been perfect in the UEFA Conference League this season, having won all 10 of their matches in Europe so far, as of the time of writing. In the League Phase, there were victories against the likes of Gent (4 – 2), Panathinaikos (4 – 1), Noah (8 – 0), Heidenheim (2 – 0), Astana (3 – 1), and Shamrock Rovers (5 – 1).
Then came the Round of 16, where Danish Giants FC Copenhagen were standing in the way of the Blues in their quest to get to the Semi Finals. In the first leg in Denmark, Chelsea were 2 – 1 winners away from home thanks to goals from Reece James (46’) and Enzo Fernández (65’), whilst it was Gabriel Pereira who scored the only goal for the hosts on that night (79’).
Then in the second leg at Stamford Bridge was also a triumph for Chelsea, who won 1 – 0 thanks to a winning goal from English midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, signed by Enzo Maresca in the 2024 Summer Transfer Window, in the early stages of the second half (55’).
Now, Chelsea has the opportunity to complete the job against Poland’s Legia Warsaw at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night in West London.
If Chelsea does indeed secure themselves a place in the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League Semi Finals, they will be going toe to toe with the winner of the of the tie between Sweden’s Djurgårdens and Austria’s Rapid Wien.
In the first leg of the Quarter Final tie between Djurgårdens and Rapid Wien, it was the latter who came out on top as 1 – 0 winners last week at the 3Arena in Stockholm thanks a winning goal that was secured thanks to an own goal early on in the second half thanks to an own goal from Djurgårdens central midfielder Hampus Finndell (62’).
