Liverpool Premier League September 2024

Eye catching Fixtures in the Premier League this weekend

All eyes are on the enthralling action to come in the Premier League this weekend, and here we take a look at the most eye catching fixtures to come.

All eyes will be on the Premier League this weekend, with its 20 football clubs returning to domestic action over the course of Saturday and Sunday. The 2024/25 season is very much still in its infancy, but that does not mean that there are not a plethora of fantastic fixtures to look forward to over the next couple of days.

Teams up and down the country will be vying for all three points to take them a step closer to realising their respective ambitions for the current campaign. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal will be looking to strengthen their claim for the title this season.

The likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle United, and Spurs are looking for European Qualification for next season.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, teams like Wolves, Southampton, Leicester City, Everton, Ipswich Town, and West Ham United will all be targeting all three points in order to strengthen their chances of avoiding relegation to the Second Tier.

Here, we are going to look at the most eye-catching fixtures from this weekend’s round of highly anticipated Premier League Fixtures.

Crystal Palace (18th) vs. Liverpool (1st) – Selhurst Park, Saturday 5th October, 12:30 KO:

We start at Selhurst Park, where Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace will be taking on league leaders Liverpool led by Arne Slot. The game will be getting underway at 12:30pm on Saturday lunchtime with there being much at stake for both the Eagles and the Reds in this match.

A win for Liverpool would not only see the Merseyside club retain their place at the summit of the table, but it would also mean that they would have a three point advantage on second place should Arsenal and Manchester City fail to win.

As for Palace, they have had a poor start to the new Premier League season, finding themselves in the relegation zone with just 3 points to their name after drawing three and losing three of their first six league games. If they can pull off a surprise win against the Reds, they will climb out of the bottom three at the expense of one of the teams above them.

Liverpool were 2 – 1 winners in the Premier League the last time that the two sides met at Selhurst Park on 9th December 2023. Mohamed Salah (76’) and Harvey Elliot (90+1’) were on target for the visiting Reds side, whilst the hosts got their only goal of the game through Jean-Philippe Mateta from the penalty spot (57’).

Manchester City (2nd) vs. Fulham (6th) – Etihad Stadium, Saturday 5th October, 15:00 KO

Next up is a match that involves another title contender, Manchester City who face Fulham, who have had a great start to their season as they currently look amongst the clubs that could qualify for Europe this season.

Currently sat in 2nd place with 14 points, a victory for Pep Guardiola and his City side would see them climb to the summit of the 2024/25 Premier League table should Liverpool fail in their quest to get the better of Crystal Palace in South London earlier on Saturday afternoon, with the Reds only a point ahead of the Cityzens.

As for Fulham, they are flying high in 6th place with a total of 11 points to their name from their opening 6 matches of the current campaign. If Marco Silva’s Cottagers side get the better of City, they could climb into the top four should other results go their way.

Manchester City and Fulham last met in the Premier League at Craven Cottage back on 11th May 2024, which was an emphatic 4 – 0 victory for City away from home in West London, with Josko Gvardiol (13’, 71’), Phil Foden (59’), and Julian Alvarez (90+6’ – Penalty) all scoring the goals.

Brighton (9th) vs. Spurs (8th) – Amex Stadium, Sunday 6th October, 16:30 KO

Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton and Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs will be going head to head at the Amex Stadium on the South Coast for this crucial Premier League game in the race for European Football.

Starting with Spurs, they currently occupy 8thplace in the Premier League with 10 points to their name to date. A win against Brighton would see Tottenham seal a fifth consecutive triumph in all competitions, and it would see them climb up to as high as 4th place should other results also go their way.

Meanwhile, the Seagulls are just a place below their North London visitors in 9th with 9 points to their name after just 6 matches. If they win and get all three points, the South Coast hosts would potentially climb to 6th place, should other results also go their way.

The last time that Brighton and Tottenham met in a Premier League Fixture was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 10th February 2024, which Spurs won 2 – 1 in North London. Pape Matar Sarr (61’) and Brennan Johnson (90+6’) were both on target that day for the hosts, whilst the visitors scored their goal through Germany International Midfielder Pascal Gross from the penalty spot (17’).

Aston Villa (5th) vs. Manchester United (13th) – Villa Park, Sunday 6th October, 14:00 KO

We now move on to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa who are very much on a high at the moment following a spectacular run of form in all competition that of course includes that famous 1 – 0 win in the UEFA Champions League against German Giants Bayern Munich on Wednesday night at Villa Park.

The Villans return to B6 on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United to Villa Park for their Premier League clash in the Second City in what is a 2pm kick-off.

Starting with the Villa, they are sat in 5thplace with 13 points to their name after their 6 matches to date, and a win for them on Sunday 6th October would take them up to the summit of the table if other results go their way, but they would be very likely to at least return to the top four in the Premier League ahead of the upcoming October international break.

If the Red Devils emerge with the win, they would go up to 8th place if results elsewhere are also in their favour this weekend.

Aston Villa and Manchester United last met in the Premier League back on 11th February 2024 at Villa Park. It was a 2 – 1 win for United, with the Red Devils beating the Villans 2 – 1 thanks to goals from Rasmus Hojlund (17’) and Scott McTominay (86’), whilst it was Douglas Luiz who scored for the Villans (67’).

Honourable Mentions:

Here are a couple of honourable mentions, which are a couple more key games from this weekend’s action in the Premier League.

Arsenal (3rd) vs. Southampton (19th) – Emirates Stadium, Saturday 5th October, 15:00 KO

Our first honourable mention is Arsenal’s crucial game against relegation threatened Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Three points for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners would potentially see them go top of the table should other results elsewhere also go their way over the weekend.

If the Saints are victorious, this shock result would take them out of the dreaded relegation zone.

Chelsea (4th) vs. Nottingham Forest (10th) – Emirates Stadium, Saturday 5thOctober, 15:00 KO

Finally, the other honourable mention goes to Chelsea, with Enzo Maresca’s side taking on high flying Nottingham Forest in 10th place at Stamford Bridge in West London. A victory would see the Blues potentially rise to the top of the table if Arsenal and Manchester City fail to win, and if Liverpool loses their game against Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park.

If Nottingham Forest wins the game rather than the Blues, the three points would see them go up to as high as 6th place in the table if the results involving Brighton, Spurs, Newcastle, and Fulham all go their way as well.

Excitement and anticipation are now building rapidly ahead of the return of the Premier League this weekend, with a number of enthralling games in prospect taking place over the course of Saturday and Sunday up and down the country.
