England Squad Announced for October Fixtures

Interim Head Coach Lee Carsley announced his England squad to take on Greece and Finland this month on Thursday afternoon.

The latest international break of the 2024/25 football season is rapidly approaching. On Thursday afternoon, Interim England Head Coach Lee Carsley announced his Three Lions squad to take on Greece and Finland in their latest matches in the UEFA Nations League.

The first game against Greece will be taking place under that iconic arch at the famous Wembley Stadium in London on Thursday 10th October, with the match kicking off in the English Capital at 7:30pm. The England squad will then make the trip to Helsinki to face Finland on Sunday 13th October in a 5pm kick-off at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

The 25 man squad to face these two nations in the UEFA Nations League is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle United).

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), John Stones (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Conor Gallagher (Atletico Madrid), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Angel Gomes (LOSC Lille), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Declan Rice (Arsenal).

Forwards: Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Dominic Solanke (Spurs), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

For the most part, the squad is the same as it was in the previous international break, but there has been one change. Dominic Solanke has been handed a first call-up to the England Senior Squad for seven years – the forward signed for Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs from Bournemouth in the Summer Transfer Window for a reported initial fee of £55 million, which could yet rise to £65 million.

Solanke was in fine form for his previous club, scoring no less than 19 goals in 38 Premier League games in the 2023/24 season for the Cherries, whilst also adding 3 assists to boot. At the end of the last top flight campaign, the forward sat joint 4th in the Premier League’s top goal scorers chart alongside Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The only players who scored more goals than Solanke in the league last term was Chelsea midfielder and England teammate Cole Palmer with 22 and City’s Erling Haaland, who led the way with 27 goals to his name.

He has also had a good start to his career with Tottenham with 3 goals and an assist to his name in 7 appearances in all competitions for the North London outfit this season.

It is a strong Three Lions squad overall. It includes an in form Cole Palmer, who is currently second in the goal scoring chart so far in the 2024/25 season with 6 goals – 4 of these came in just one half in Chelsea’s recent 4 – 2 victory against Brighton. He was the first to score four goals in the first half alone.

You also have England and Spurs’ all-time leading goal scorer Harry Kane, as well as the clinical Ollie Watkins and the always impressive Bukayo Saka. The likes of Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, John Stones, Ezri Konsa, and Conor Gallagher are also involved.

England are in a strong position in their Group in their latest UEFA Nations League Campaign, sitting joint top alongside Greece at the moment. A victory against their Greek counterparts will see them sit top of the standings, and Carsley’s Three Lions side will also be confident of getting a result in their second and final Nations League contest against Finland.
