Premier League: Brentford vs. Chelsea Preview

Enzo Maresca and his Blues side will be looking to further strengthen their chances of UEFA Champions League Qualification for next season with a victory away from home against their fellow London Club.

We are now in the run-in in the 2024/25 Premier League season, with less than ten games remaining between now and the end of the season, with the 38th and final round of matches taking place on the afternoon of Sunday 25th May 2025, with all of the kick-offs taking place at 4pm on that day.

Back to the present, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea still have plenty to fight for in their final few games of the season, and this weekend they will be taking on a fellow London Club in the form of Thomas Frank’s Brentford away from home at the Bees’ Gtech Community Stadium in West London on Sunday 6th April 2025 in a 14:00 kick off.

Brentford are a club battling for European Football this season, with the club currently less than 10 points adrift of the top six as of the time of writing and a win for them would boost their hopes significantly. As for the Blues, they are at the forefront of the battle of UEFA Champions League Football for next season, and they are at present one of the leading candidates to do just that come the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

After the game against Brentford, Chelsea will have only eight games remaining, and this will see them take on Ipswich Town (Sunday 13th April, Stamford Bridge – 14:00 KO), local rivals Fulham (Sunday 20th April, Craven Cottage – 14:00 KO), Everton (Saturday 26th April, Stamford Bridge – 12:30 KO), Liverpool (Sunday 4th May, Stamford Bridge – 16:30 KO), Newcastle United (Saturday 10th May, St. James’ Park – 15:00 KO), Manchester United (Sunday 18th May, Stamford Bridge – 15:00 KO), and finally fellow UEFA Champions League Qualification chasing club Nottingham Forest, led by Nuno Espirito Santo on Sunday 25th May at the City Ground in what will be a 16:00 kick-off on the final day of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Their chances are increased by the strong possibility that the English Top Flight will be awarded a 5th Champions League Qualification spot for next season’s competition due to the league’s UEFA Coefficient Ranking. This means that clubs from England have been performing better than clubs from any other nation in the continent of Europe in recent times, including that 2023 win for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side.

Victory against the Bees will mean that Chelsea’s place in the top five of the league will be strengthened, and therefore their chances of qualification for European Football’s Premier Club Cup Competition will be made more likely as a result.

Chelsea and Brentford first met in a competitive fixture at Stamford Bridge in what was a Division One Fixture between these two clubs from the English Capital back on Saturday 23rd November 1935 in front of a 56,624 strong crowd. It was a 2 – 1 victory over the visiting Bees side on that particular day, and the Blues’ goals came from the likes of Alexander Cheyne and Dick Spence.

Fast forwarding to much more recent history, the most recent competitive encounter between Chelsea and Brentford also took place at Stamford Bridge, with this game being played back on Sunday 15th December 2024. It was a 2 – 1 victory for Chelsea on that day, with Marc Cucurella (43’) and Nicolas Jackson both being on the scoresheet for the Blues (80’).

Overall, the Blues and the Bees have gone head to head competitively in all competitions on a grand total of 22 occasions, and it is Chelsea who has the superior record of no less than 11 victories in the short but eventful history of this fixture. Brentford has 7 wins so far against their local London rivals, whilst there have also been a grand total of 4 draws between these two teams as of the time of writing.

Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of the last few fixtures for Chelsea for the 2024/25 Premier League season, with this game against Brentford set to get underway at 14:00 in the afternoon on Sunday 6th April 2025.
