Premier League: Matchday 11 Preview

Here, we take a look ahead at the action to come on Matchday 11 of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

We are still in the early stages of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with teams looking to put a positive run of form together that will see them end the season having achieved their respective ambitions for the current campaign.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal are currently the most prominent figures in the title race whilst Nottingham Forest are the surprise package sat in a Champions League place in 3rd as of the time of writing.

Aston Villa, Spurs, Brighton, and Fulham are not far adrift of the top four and they are all currently in contention for European Qualification by the end of the current season. The likes of Bournemouth and Newcastle will also be looking to compete for a place in the top seven as well.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the Premier League table, Wolves are rooted to the bottom of the standings so far having not recorded a win in their opening 10 games with just 3 points to their name in total. Newly promoted clubs Southampton and Ipswich Town are in the final two spots in the relegation zone, sitting in 19th and 18th place with 4 and 5 points respectively.

Crystal Palace are just above the relegation zone in 17th place on 7 points – just 2 above the drop. Everton and newly promoted Leicester City, on 9 and 10 points respectively, are also looking nervously over their shoulders as well.

It is a tightly contested league table as things stand, and a lot can change over the course of the weekend and the season as a whole. There could be plenty of movement in the table following the action from Matchday 11.

Here, we take a look at and preview all of the matches to come, with particular focus on the most eye-catching fixtures of this latest round of matches in the English top flight.

Chelsea (4th) vs. Arsenal (5th) – (Stamford Bridge, 16:30 KO) – Sunday 10th November

We start with what promises to be a fiercely contested London Derby between Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in a crucial game in the current season’s Premier League title race between these two teams at Stamford Bridge.

This highly anticipated game will see 4th place Chelsea take on a Gunners side sat just a place below them in 5th – they both have 18 points, with the Blues ahead of their North London counterparts on goal difference.

A victory for Maresca’s Blues and Arteta’s Gunners will see them go to within 4 points of the top of the table in 3rd if results go their way elsewhere.

Chelsea and Arsenal last met in a competitive fixture at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League back on 21st October 2023 in what was a hotly contested 2 – 2 draw in West London.

Liverpool (1st) vs. Aston Villa (6th) (Anfield, 20:00 KO) – Saturday 9th November

We now move on to the high profile clash coming up between Arne Slot’s Liverpool and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at the iconic Anfield in a 20:00 Kick-Off on Saturday 9th November. This game is crucial for the Reds’ title battle, whilst it is important for Villa, as they target qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League with another top four finish.

Liverpool are sat at the summit of the top flight table at the moment, and they could stretch the gap between themselves and second place to as many as 5 points should other results also go their way this weekend. As for Villa, they can rise as high as 3rd place with a win on the red side of Merseyside.

The two clubs last met at Anfield in the Premier League back on 3rd September 2023, with Liverpool winning 3 – 0 that day, thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (3’), Mohamed Salah (55’), and an own goal from Villa defender Matty Cash (22’).

Wolves (20th) vs. Southampton (19th) – (Molineux, 15:00 KO) – Saturday 9th November

The next game we will be looking at is a basement battle between bottom of the table Wolves and newly promoted Southampton, who currently sit just one place and one point above them in 19th place at the moment.

With a win, Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side could rise up to 18thplace which would see them just 1 point off safety should other results also go their way. If Russell Martin’s Saints get all three points, they will move up to 18th place, level on points with Crystal Palace, led by their Austrian Head Coach Oliver Glasner, in 17th.

The last time that these two clubs went head to head at Molineux in a competitive fixture came in their first league meeting last season on 3rd September 2022, when Daniel Podence scored the winning goal in a 1 – 0 victory in the West Midlands.
