England Squad Announced
Gareth Southgate has announced his 25 man squad for EURO 2024 Qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
Premier League football is set to go on pause for a fortnight following the action this weekend as the November international break edges ever closer. England fans up and down the country have been anticipating who will be in Gareth Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad.
Over the course of this latest international break, England are set to play their final two qualifying matches for the upcoming 2024 European Championships in Germany. The first game will be against Malta at Wembley on Friday, 17th November, before they travel to the Toše Proeski Arena to face North Macedonia in their final EURO 2024 Qualifier on Monday, 20th November 2023.
England began their EURO 2024 Qualifying campaign away from home against Italy, beating them 2 – 1. This was a historic night, as Harry Kane broke Wayne Rooney’s record to become England’s new all-time leading goal scorer. Declan Rice scored the other goal for the Three Lions.
This result was followed up by another win, this time against Ukraine at Wembley Stadium. Gareth Southgate’s side ran out 2 – 0 winners after goals from Harry Kane and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka late in the first half. Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Kane, Callum Wilson and an own goal from Ferdinando Apap then secured a 4-0 victory and a third win in as many EURO 2024 Qualifying matches for England.
Southgate’s side then enjoyed another emphatic win in their fourth qualifying match against North Macedonia under the arch at Wembley. It was a 7 – 0 win, with Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Kalvin Phillips all finding the back of the net that day.
Following a 1 – 1 draw away from home against Ukraine, England officially confirmed their place in the 2024 European Championships in Germany following a 3 – 1 win at Wembley against Italy. Harry Kane (32’ – Penalty, 77’) and Marcus Rashford (57’) were the goal scorers for the Three Lions.
This was their most recent EURO 2024 Qualifier, and England are sat at the top of Group C with 16 points accumulated from their six matches. Should results go their way, England could win the group if they beat Malta.
In terms of head-to-head record, England has a favourable record against both Malta and North Macedonia. Against Malta, England have won all six of their matches against each other. As for the Three Lions’ record against North Macedonia, England has won 3 and drawn 2 of their 5 encounters.
