Top 7 Premier League scorers so far
The English top flight has some of the best finishers in world football, and here we take a look at the top scorers so far in the 2023/24 season.
The 2023/24 Premier League season has been enthralling so far, and the rest of the season promises to carry on this trend. Goal scoring is, of course, the most crucial aspect of any football match, and some players are better than others at finding the back of their opposition’s net. There are so many top-class finishers in the English top flight, and these forwards are not just representing the top clubs; some of the other clubs also have prolific forwards who found the net regularly this season.
Just before we take a look at the top-scoring players this term, let’s take a quick look at how teams have been getting on as a whole when it comes to scoring goals.
The current top scorers are reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City, who have found the back of the net 32 times from just 12 matches. In a close second place are Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who have scored 29 goals – just 3 less than the current league leaders. Liverpool and Newcastle United are joint third with 27, whilst Arsenal are fourth with 26.
The Gunners are closely followed by Brighton in fifth (25) and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have scored 24 goals so far this season.
Now, we will finally move on to the top seven leading individual goal scorers this term.
7: Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton), Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest) & Julian Alvarez (Manchester City) – 4 Goals
We start with seventh, where 8 players all share this spot with four goals each. Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer are finding the net regularly to try and catapult Chelsea up the table, whilst Taiwo Awoniyi and Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goals for Nottingham Forest and Everton, respectively, will be looking to lead their teams to safety.
Anthony Gordon’s four goals will help Newcastle to try and repeat their fantastic feats of last season, whilst Julian Alvarez, Bukayo Saka and Darwin Nunez’s 4 goals each will help their sides potentially realise their ambitions of lifting the Premier League title.
6: Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Evan Ferguson (Brighton & Hove Albion) & Odsonne Edouard (Crystal Palace) – 5 Goals
Next up is sixth spot, where four players share it with 5 goals each so far this season. Douglas Luiz and Evan Ferguson’s 5 goals each will help their respective ambitious clubs potentially qualify for European football again. Odsonne Edouard’s goals can help Crystal Palace lift themselves from mid-table mediocracy, whilst Eddie Nketiah will look to help Arsenal to a first Premier League title since 2004.
5: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Dominic Solanke (AFC Bournemouth), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea), Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Hwang Hee-Chan (Wolverhampton Wanderers) – 6 Goals
Hwang Hee-Chan and Dominic Solanke both have six goals this season for Wolves and Bournemouth, respectively, as they look to lift their clubs away from the drop zone. An ambitious Aston Villa will hope that Ollie Watkins can help lead them to European qualification once again, and he is certainly on course to do just that. Bryan Mbeumo’s superb form has seen him become Brentford’s star man in the absence of Ivan Toney, and Thomas Frank’s Bees will have their sights on making significant progress up the Premier League table.
Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson hopes to continue to add to his goal tally to help the Blues return to European football this term. Alexander Isak will want to continue his fine form to realise Newcastle’s ambitious goals.
4: Callum Wilson (Newcastle United) – 7 Goals
So far, Newcastle United’s leading goal scorer in the 2023/24 Premier League season is Callum Wilson, who has found the net on no less than 7 occasions as of the time of writing. Wilson was the Magpies’ leading goal scorer last season with 18, and he has a great chance to beat or at least match this record, given he is almost halfway there so early in the season. He will hope that these goals will see his team qualify for Europe for the second season running.
3: Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur) & Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United) – 8 Goals
We enter the top three on this list, and it is Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen who jointly hold third at the moment with 8 Premier League goals each. Son has been a key part of Spurs’ excellent start to the 2023/24 season under the stewardship of new Head Coach Ange Postecoglou. The South Korean will hope to lead the Lilywhites to Champions League qualification.
As for Jarrod Bowen, he is the highest scoring English player in the Premier League, and he hopes to help the Hammers climb into the top half, whilst balancing domestic football with Europa League football.
2: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 10 Goals
Mohamed Salah has been the star man for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for some time now, and it is no surprise to see him so high in the scoring charts so early in the season. The Egyptian is also the Reds’ leading goal scorer so far this season. He was also Liverpool’s top scorer back in the 2022/23 season, with 19 goals.
The clinical forward will have his sights on helping his team maintain their title charge with the aim of stopping Manchester City from sealing a record breaking and historic fourth Premier League title in a row.
1: Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 13 Goals
Erling Haaland was the golden boot winner last season with 36 goals – not only did he get the golden boot, he also broke the record for the most goals in a debut Premier League season, beating Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s previous record of 36, but Haaland did it 7 less matches.
So, it does not come as a surprise to see him lead the way in the Premier League scoring charts with 13. The Norwegian is 8 ahead of Salah in second place.
All of these players will, of course, add to their respective goal tallies in what remains of the 2023/24 Premier League season. It will be intriguing to see who will eventually come out on top and win the prestigious and highly coveted golden boot award for the current campaign.
