Jets vs Vikings 2024

NFL: New York Jets 17 – 23 Minnesota Vikings Game Review

The Vikings remain unbeaten this season after securing a fifth victory in a row after beating the Jets in front of a 61,139 strong crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The first Regular Season NFL Game to take place in London in 2024 was played on Sunday afternoon when Kevin O’Connell’s Minnesota Vikings and Robert Saleh’s New York Jets at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There was plenty at stake for both sides going into this game in the British Capital. For the Vikings, they had an unbeaten run to protect having won all four of their 2024/25 NFL Matches ahead of this game against their New York counterparts. Ahead of their clash with the Jets, the Vikings were victorious against the New York Giants (6 – 29), the San Francisco 49ers (23 – 17), the Houston Texans (34 – 7), and the Green Bay Packers (29 – 31).

The only other unbeaten side before this game was the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

As for the Jets, the side from the Big Apple had had a decent start to their latest season in the NFL, winning two and losing two of their first four games. Saleh’s side had sealed wins against the Tennessee Titans (17 – 24) and the New England Patriots (24 – 3), whilst they had been defeated by the San Francisco 49ers (32 – 19) and the Denver Broncos (9 – 10).

In the end, it was to be a highly competitive game between the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the contest ending in a 17 – 23 victory for the Vikings in North London.

Match Review:

The first half of this contest was dominated by the Minnesota Vikings, and they were able to intercept back-to-back possessions from New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers did reach a milestone during this game, when he reached 60,000 passing yards in his career to date, with this total now standing at 60,148 in regular season matches alone as of the time of writing.

This is the 7th most of all time so far, with the players currently sitting above him in this statistic as follows: Dan Marino (61,361), Matt Ryan (62,792), Philip Rivers (63,440), Ben Roethlisberger (64,088), Brett Favre (71,838), Peyton Manning (71,940), Drew Brees (80,358), and finally Tom Brady (89,214).

In the early stages, the Vikings fans in attendance were witness to an incredible 63 yard touchdown from line breaker Andrew van Ginkel – this gave his team a commanding 10 – 0 lead, bringing the first quarter to an end. It was not long after this that there was a spectacular 74 yard drive from the Vikings’ Sam Darnold, with the football being punched over the line in the end by his teammate CJ Ham.

Just before half time, the Vikings’ score did rise to 17 after a crucial touchdown from CJ Ham, but the New York Jets did get on the scoresheet when they got a touchdown of their own thanks to the efforts of Wide Receiver Allen Lazard. At the half time, the scoreline stood at 7 – 17 in favour of the Vikings. It had been an enthralling contest so far.

The third and penultimate Quarter ended with the scoreline remaining as it was at the break, 10 – 17.

In the fourth and final quarter, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson scored a touchdown for his team as they looked to make further inroads on their opponents’ lead.

To the relief of all those associated with the Minnesota Vikings, two crucial field goals from 23 year old placekicker Will Reichard brought them significantly closer to victory. This was then followed by an equally important interception from the Vikings’ cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

The Minnesota Vikings managed to endure all of the pressure, and they were able to come away with a 17 – 23 victory, which now makes it 5 wins in a row in what has been a spectacular start for Kevin O’Connell’s side so far.

This victory leaves them in 1st place in the National Football Conference North standings, just ahead of the Detroit Lions in second place, as well as the Chicago Bears (3rd) and the Green Bay Packers (4th).

As for the New York Jets, this defeat for Saleh’s team leaves them sitting 2nd in the American Football Conference East with only the Buffalo Bills above them to date. The Miami Dolphins (3rd) and the New England Patriots (4th) are behind them as things stand at the time of writing.
