NFL: New York Jets vs Minnesota Vikings Preview

The NFL comes to North London on Sunday where a high profile contest between the Jets and the Vikings is set to be played at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Match Preview:

The first NFL Regular Season match of the 2024/25 campaign will be taking place this weekend at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings go toe to toe in North London. The game itself will be taking place on Sunday 6th October 2024, with the action set to get underway at 14:30pm UK Time, and 8:30am in the United States.

Both teams have played in London in previous years. Starting with the Jets, they have played NFL matches in the English Capital on a total of 2 occasions, having done so back in 2015 and 2021. Their first-ever game in London took place at Wembley Stadium back on 4th October 2015, where they were able to emerge as deserved 27 – 14 winners against the Miami Dolphins under that iconic Wembley arch.

Their most recent trip to London saw them come face to face with the Atlanta Falcons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This time it was to be a defeat for the New York Jets, who lost by a narrow margin of 20 – 27.

As for the Vikings, they have taken part in NFL matches in London several times – 3 to be precise. They first played in the English Capital against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wembley Stadium on 29th September 2013. The Vikings and the Steelers were involved in what was an intense and enthralling game that saw the former come away with a 27 – 34 victory in the end.

They then came to Britain for an NFL game at the famous Twickenham Stadium on 29th October 2017. On this occasion, they were able to beat the Cleveland Browns by a comfortable margin of 33 – 16. Finally, their most recent trip to the UK saw them go toe to toe with the New Orleans Saints, beating them 28 – 25 in a tight and competitive contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 2nd October 2022.

The Minnesota Vikings can as a result boast an unbeaten record when it comes to regular season matches that they play in London to date.

The 2024/25 NFL Regular season may still be in its early stages, but both teams have most certainly got off to great starts in their respective campaigns.

Starting with the Vikings, they are so far unbeaten after four games. They began the season with a commanding 6 – 28 win against the New York Giants in early September before going on to beat the San Francisco 49ers 23 – 17 at the US Bank Stadium to secure a second successive win.

They were in ruthless form once more in their following game against the Houston Texans, beating them 34 – 7 before their tie against the Green Bay Packers, which was a much tighter contest for the Vikings in the end.

This was their most recent game and victory for the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field by a narrow margin of 29 – 31.

Following these results, they currently sit top of the NFC North standings, ahead of the Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears, and the Green Bay Packers.

As for the Jets, they began 2024/25 with a 32 – 19 defeat before bouncing back in style in their next two games. They were 17 – 24 winners in their second game of their campaign against the Tennessee Titans before then emerging with an emphatic 24 – 3 win against the New England Patriots, which is their most recent NFL win.

They were on the wrong end of a tight 9 – 10 defeat against the Denver Broncos in their most recent game, which has left them in a very solid second place in the AFC East Standings. The Buffalo Bills are the only side above them, with the two teams below them as it stands being the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets will be looking to bounce back from their defeat last time out with a victory against the Minnesota Vikings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Head to Head Record:

Over the years, the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings have gone head to head 12 times to date, first facing each other on 29th November 1970, where it was the Jets who secured victory by beating the Vikings 10 – 20.

Overall, it is the Jets who have the superior record of 8 victories compared to the Minnesota Vikings’ total of 4 to date. As of the time of writing, there has never been a tie between them.

The New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings most recently met in the NFL back on 4th December 2022, when the Vikings were 22 – 27 winners.

The other NFL Regular season fixtures to be taking place in London this year will see the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears go head to head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 13th October.
