Wales most recently took part in the prestigious Autumn Internationals back in November 2014. Unfortunately, they were unable to come away with victories in their matches against the likes of Fiji, Australia, and South Africa, and they will be looking for wins this year to build some momentum.

So far, Wales and Japan have gone head to head just 14 times in all competitions to date, as of the time of writing to date. Historically, it has been Wales who have had a dominant record against Japan, having won 13 times compared to just 1 for their Japanese counterparts as of the time of writing.

We have to rewind to 6th October 1973 for the first competitive meeting between these two national teams, and it was to be an emphatic and well deserved 62 – 14 win for Wales in Cardiff. This began an extraordinary streak of no less than 12 wins in a row from 6th October 1973 and 8th June 2013. Japan’s first and so far only victory in this fixture was a 23 – 8 triumph in Tokyo back on 15th June 2013.

The most recent competitive fixture to have taken place between them took place at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh Capital back on 19th November 2016 in what was a tight, tense, and a highly competitive game. It was a 33 – 30 win for Wales in the end, and they will be looking to continue their dominant record against Japan when they meet once more in Cardiff on Saturday 15th November 2025.
