This game will be taking place on Friday 6th March 2026, with the game getting underway on that evening at 20:10pm.
Glory and bragging rights are at stake for both nations when they go toe to toe in this much anticipated contest, and there promises to be a great atmosphere and game to boot for all fans in attendance. Ireland will be looking for a win in the latest chapter of this historic rivalry, and they will be optimistic of doing so in front of their home crowd in Dublin.
It was Simon Easterby who led Ireland in the most recent Six Nations Championship in 2025, taking temporary charge after Head Coach Andy Farrell was chosen to lead the British & Irish Lions for the tour of Australia. Farrell will be back in charge of the Ireland team when they meet Wales at the Aviva Stadium in March 2026.
Andy Farrell has been in charge of Ireland since he was appointed to replace New Zealand’s Joe Schmidt in 2019, who had been in charge for six years. Since then, Farrell has overseen a period that has seen Ireland win two Six Nations Championships (2023 & 2024), the former of which was a Grand Slam, whilst the nation also won two Triple Crowns, doing so back in 2022 and 2023.
In the most recent Six Nations Championship in 2025, it was to be a creditable 3rd place finish after earning a total of 19 points after winning 4 and losing just one of their 5 games overall, and it was only England and reigning Champions France who finished ahead of them on 20 and 21 points respectively.
Ireland’s four victories came against England (27 – 22), Scotland (18 – 32), Wales (18 – 27), and Italy (17 – 22), with their only defeat coming against Champions France, who were able to beat them 27 – 42 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
The aforementioned game against Wales is their most recent competitive encounter ahead of this much anticipated game.
Ireland and Wales met in competitive international rugby for the very first time at Landsdowne Road in Dublin during the 1881/82 Home Nations Internationals back on 28th January 1882, and it was won by Wales. Ireland’s first competitive victory against Wales came in the 1888 Home Nations Championship at Lansdowne Park on 3rd March 1888.
